Akane Yamaguchi wins first Badminton World Championship


Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi gained her maiden girls’s singles title on the World Badminton Championships on Sunday.

Ranked third on the earth and seeded second on the earth, Yamaguchi defeated world No. 1 and Tokyo Olympic champion Tai Tzu-ying of Taiwan 21-14, 21-11. Yamaguchi turned Japan’s second girls’s world champion after Nozomi Okuhara, who gained in 2017.

Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino failed of their bid to change into Japan’s first combined doubles world champion, shedding their remaining to second-seeded Dechapol Puwaranukroh and Sapsiri Teratanachai, 21-13, 21-14 of Thailand.
